3pm to 10pm

For over 3,000 years, Día de los Muertos has celebrated the sacred cycle of life and death. In San Juan Bautista—La Ciudad de la Historia—this tradition finds a natural home.

The Mission bells, marigolds, and ofrendas honor those who came before us, while music, dancing, and food remind us that their spirit still lives among us. Our festival is both solemn and joyful: a bridge between past and present, memory and celebration.

Join us for San Juan Bautista’s

Día de los Muertos Celebration

In La Ciudad de la Historia, we honor the dead with flowers, music, and love—so their spirits walk among us still. Join San Juan Bautista and friends to celebrate Día de los Muertos on November 1st, 2025. This celebration is a first of its kind, bringing together many vital pillars of the San Juan Bautista community.

The celebration kicks off at 4pm with an Aztec “Blessing of the Community, ” which includes danzantes blessing the Ofrenda on the top of the hill at the San Juan Bautista Cemetery. Then at 4:45pm at Mission San Juan Bautista, a mass for the deceased Indigenous peoples will be held. This is followed by a blessing for the dead and assembly at 5:45pm.

From there, a procession with candles and Mariachi Alma de México will be held from the Mission to the Cemetery. This is intended to be a spiritual and reflective time. Once arrived at the Cemetery, a blessing for the dead will be held at 6:30pm.

After this, a procession intended to celebrate the deceased’s lives will be led by El Teatro Campesino’s La Banda Calavera. This will be a lively procession which will lead attendees to the Celebracíon de Vida!

The Celebracíon located on Washington St. will open from 3pm until 10pm; hosting vendors, music, folklorico dancing, food trucks, face painting, a photo booth, and more! For a more visual representation of the event, check out the diagram below:

To help follow along with the celebration, the map below illustrates the route attendees will take. If you can’t make it to the beginning or other parts of the Día de los Muertos celebration, we still invite attendees to join at any step of the way!
